2Print - high speed, digital CD & DVD
printing
Back in October '07 we took delivery of our new,
high-speed, digital disc printer, 2Print. Manufactured
to order in Italy, the machine incorporates the
latest UV curable inkjet technology coupled with
tried and tested disc handling systems.
And it's not small, weighing in at 1.2 tonnes and
measuring 3m in length, it's a truly industrial
24/7 machine, running on 3-phase electricity and
using compressed air, chilled water and a vacuum
pump - so unlike most inkjet CD and DVD printers,
it's not portable and it definitely won't sit on
the desk!
The printer uses a combination of an optional screen
print (for the white base), inkjet and UV curing
technology to print in CMYK directly onto the surface
of 12cm CDs and DVDs. The resolution of the printed
image is excellent and sits between Silk
Screen Printing and Offset
Printing. Customers have commented on the matt/sheen
finish of the discs being similar to those of discs
found on the high street.
Since taking delivery 4 months ago, 2Print has completed
over 270 disc titles, totalling over 200,000 disc
impressions.

This last point is probably the most significant.
We have found that the cost saving, coupled with
the time saving has meant jobs produced on the 2Print
are significantly more competitive when compared
with pressing quantities up to 5000.
