Royal
Mail to introduce Pricing in Proportion
On the 21st August, Royal Mail will be changing
the way all items of post will be charged. Called
Pricing in Proportion the cost
to post an item will be dependent upon its thickness
and its size, as well as its weight.
How will this work?
Mail is to be sorted into 3 categories: letter,
large letter and packets. Once in a category, there
is a pricing structure dependent upon its weight.
How are letter, large letter and packet
categories defined?

the letter format would be
greetings cards, personal letters, postcards
and bills.

the large letter format would
be A4 documents, CDs and DVDs in their cases
and most magazines.

Will this affect our delivery costs?
No, for the majority of our customers – as
most deliveries are made by same-day courier or
overnight carrier. However, for those companies
who ask us to distribute their discs and packages
directly to their end-users, there may be some small
price changes - but we are looking into alternative
outer packaging which will allow your discs to travel
safely but remain in the lowest mail category to
keep costs down.
If you feel this may affect you, please contact
us – that’s if we haven’t
already contacted you first!
