Providing a better finish

Since we began inkjet printing CDs in 2000 we have always hand-sprayed a protective lacquer onto the CDs / DVDs, and whilst necessary, it was time consuming and dusty - requiring sealed rooms and extraction equipment. Also, we found that certain designs once sprayed could be left feeling 'tacky', particularly over heavy concentrations of solid colour, such as blue. In these instances, if time permitted, screen printing was advised.

Two automated solutions to this industry wide problem became available in 2004 - a laminator and a spray system using an Ultra Violet curable lacquer.

After testing both systems, the UV spray system stood out as the best solution from both a production and cost perspective. The results from both systems were excellent, and although the laminator was cheaper, the running costs were much higher and would have resulted in an additional 12p per CD to our clients - which we didn't think you'd want to pay!

The benefits of the spray machine have been enormous - not only to our clients but from a production viewpoint. Your CDs will have:

- A high quality 'satin' finish
- A more durable surface
- A faster turnaround on jobs
- No limitations on image or colours to go on the media
- No increase in unit cost

If you would like to see samples of machine lacquered CDs just give us a call and we'll be happy to mail them to you. The results are excellent!.
