Case Study
"Cost-effective Flexibility"

The Background
Our client provides software solutions enabling organisations to manage their customer databases more efficiently. Their software is very complex with regular monthly updates and quarterly upgrades. Our client also has a distinct brand identity so the upgrades need to retain visual consistency whilst keeping the costs to a minimum.

Not all users require the same upgrades as there are differing software configurations. As a result, various combinations of CDs need to be distributed meaning that the quantities of each master duplicated can vary.

The Problem
The quarterly upgrades were always pressed and screen printed. Consequently, minimum quantities had to be produced, which often exceeded their requirement. This was not only costly, but also time consuming, as the manufacture of pressed discs can vary between 8 and 11 days (depending on the time of the year). This resulted in their clients not receiving software upgrades for nearly 2 weeks after the master data was made available.

The upgrade CDs also lacked visual consistency with the monthly updates, as these required a fast turnaround and were manufactured on CD-R in smaller quantities.

The Solution
When confronted with these problems we suggested the solution of mass producing screen printed, blank CDs, leaving a 'window' where specific information about the CD content could be added later. These CDs could then be used for all releases, both monthly updates and quarterly upgrades. The CDs are duplicated to their exact quantity and the content specific information is thermally printed to the surface of the each disc.

The Result
Visual consistency, and savings in both time and cost. Exact quantities are produced, eliminating wastage and unnecessary disposal costs. Most importantly the completed CDs are delivered back to our client within 4 days of the masters being issued, ensuring the end user has their upgrades quickly causing as little disruption to their business as possible.

"At 4B we help our clients find solutions to their problems. Whether these problems are print related, cost related, time constrained or other factors that exist with modern day business pressures, we'll try to come up with a solution that suits their needs. We don't just see ourselves as a duplicator, but as a Solution Provider for our clients – and no two clients requirements are the same."
